Coyote Hazing
If you are a city girl like me, critters big and small terrify me. Chipmunks, squirrels, big black crows, rabbits, racoons…At one point or another all of these rodents have made me scream in a panic. In fact, it is a family joke, my unreasonable fear of squirrels (Let’s just say that I have a lot of squirrel paraphernalia acquired as gifts over the years: stuffed squirrels, squirrel ornaments, squirrel air fresheners, and the best, a pewter squirrel nutcracker.). Living in the metro area, you would think that I would be safe from any bigger “game.” But NO. I have seen, in my very own neighborhood, deer, fox and coyotes…the latter in my own backyard. Needless to say, I am not pleased. In fact at times I am deathly afraid to mow my own yard. That is not right.
Luckily, the city of Edina is going to help me out, at least on the coyote front. With the coyote population growing in Edina (due to a lack of any natural predators), Citizens need ways to protect themselves and their pets. The city is promoting hazing by sponsoring coyote management workshop(s) to help educate locals about the techniques of hazing as a way to scare and protect. The first such session was held February 9th, but more are scheduled through the end of March. Information and online registration for these remaining Coyote Hazing Courses can be found on the city of Edina’s webpage. Let’s haze those coyotes right out of town.
Southwest High School in Minneapolis rates high, with Hipsters too!

Southwest High School in Minneapolis is an IB World School (International Baccalaureate (IB) school with Middle Years Programme (MYP).) In a nutshell, the program is based around five ‘areas of interaction’: approaches to learning, community and service, human ingenuity, environments, and health and social education. In additionto the IB, Southwest has a well developed fine arts program available. Located in the heart of the Fulton neighborhood, but serving a larger area of the city of Minneapolis, Southwest High School opened for its first school year in 1940, serving students from Edina, Richfield and the Washburn area. Ranked highly in the state and on a national level because of its IB programming, Southwest High School is a neighborhood school to root for! Fun Fact from Wikopedia: Southwest High School also is known for the amount of hipsters that attend the school. They recently were the subject of an episode of EpicLloyd Alqhuist’s youtube rap series ‘dis raps for hire’. They got properly owned.
